Read Schedule -> Check Inventory -> Score Readiness -> Prompt Reorder
Reference Standard and Reagent Readiness Agent
Before a planned test run, this agent checks that every reference standard and reagent it needs is in date, qualified, and stocked in enough quantity. It returns a go or no-go readiness list per run, names the exact item that would block it, and prompts a reorder or re-qualification in time to fix it.
The Problem
The run was booked. The standard expired last week. The lab found out at the bench.
A test run is scheduled and the analyst sets up, only to reach for a reference standard that expired or a reagent that is down to a few milliliters. Now the run stalls while someone hunts for a replacement or starts a re-qualification that takes days. The expiry date was sitting in the inventory sheet the whole time, but nobody checked it against the schedule before the run.
What Changes
The run is booked. The agent checks the standards and reagents before the analyst does.
The agent reads the upcoming test schedule and the standard and reagent inventory, then checks expiry, qualification status, and quantity for every item each run needs. It returns a go or no-go per scheduled run, names the one item that would block it, and prompts a reorder or re-qualification while there is still time to act.
Humans stay in control: the agent flags what is short or expired and prompts the action, the lab lead places the order and signs the re-qualification.
HOW THE AGENT WORKS
HOW TO BUILD IT
Three levels of depth. Pick the one that matches where you are.
For the ops person who needs to understand what's involved and brief their team.
WHAT YOUR TEAM PROVIDES ONCE
- Readiness verdict - a go or no-go for each scheduled run
- Blocking item - the exact standard or reagent that would stop the run
- Expiry check - which items expire before the run date
- Quantity check - which items fall short of the amount the run needs
- Reorder prompt - a draft reorder or re-qualification request with lead time noted
For the IT person or technical lead who needs to scope the integration.

Without API access, export the schedule and inventory to CSV into a watched folder. The agent still scores readiness, but someone refreshes the inventory export and expiry dates may lag what is really on the shelf.
With API access the agent reads the schedule and live inventory from LIMS each morning, so the readiness list reflects what is actually on the shelf and what is booked. Expiry and qualification status come straight from the record. Best experience.

You are a QC readiness planner. For each scheduled run below, list the reference standards and reagents it needs using the method-to-item mapping, with the quantity each run consumes. For each run's required items, compare against inventory. Mark an item blocking if it expires before the run date, is not qualified, or has less quantity than needed. Set the run to no_go if any item blocks it, otherwise go. For each blocking item, draft a short reorder or re-qualification prompt. - Export the test schedule and inventory to CSV into a watched folder.
- Map each run to the items its method needs and the quantity used.
- Check each item for expiry before the run date, qualification, and quantity on hand.
- Mark each run go or no-go and name the blocking item.
- Email the lab lead a readiness list with a reorder prompt for anything short.
- =+ Connect LIMS so schedule and inventory read live each morning.
- =+ Add supplier lead times so reorder prompts fire with enough days to arrive.
- =+ Include re-qualification turnaround so expiring standards get flagged early enough.
- =+ Roll readiness across a rolling two-week horizon, not just the next run.
- =+ Post a daily go or no-go board to the lab Teams channel.
- =+ Track how often runs are blocked and by which items to fix reorder points.
